Metal Free Dental Implants in Sydney

Zirconia Dental Implants in Sydney

Metal-free or zirconia dental implant is the new trend of today’s dental practice. Know how it operates.

Due to the increasing demand for a more enhanced dental practice in Australia, clinics have come up with modern breakthroughs that would meet client standards and satisfaction. Over the years, we have heard of Titanium as the most sought-after material in oral implantology. Fortunately, it has worked well for a lot of patients and has given them reasons to show off their bright smiles again; however, this hasn’t been the case for people with Titanium allergies.

In several dental clinics, a small portion of patients may suffer from irritability or sensitivity to certain metals and/or alloys and their corrosion by-products. Meanwhile, others may prefer a metal-free option for personal reasons. At Marsfield Dental Care, we are proud to introduce metal-free or ceramic dental implants as alternatives to Titanium implants.

These metal-free dental implants we place at Marsfield Dental Care (ZERAMEX®) are primarily made from zirconia, a highly inert, stable, biocompatible ceramic that does not corrode or oxidize. Zirconia dental implants are tooth root replacements coated by a ceramic dental crown. Zirconia is the crystal form of the chemical element Zirconium and is commercially declared as metal-free. As compared to Titanium implants, the ones made in zirconia are simpler, more durable, hypoallergenic, and corrosion-resistant. There is some emerging evidence to suggest that the gums accept zirconia more readily than Titanium and that plaque may not adhere (stick) to this material as much as it does to any metal surface.

Another possible advantage of zirconia dental implants is that they can lead to a more aesthetic result. Some patients present with thin gums which metals may be seen through, leading to a “grey” appearance. This is often not favorable for your front teeth. As zirconia dental implants come in white or ivory color, there is neither “greying” of the gums, nor any visibility of metallic collars.

Moreover, here at Marsfield Dental Care, we are highly-capable of placing and restoring dental implants where appropriate. Risks and consequences may apply to any treatment, particularly implant treatment. It is best that you are assessed by a dental professional prior to embarking on any dental implant treatment so that the risks, consequences, and benefits of such treatment are explained to you in detail and in-person. Always seek a second opinion when considering complex treatment. A referral to a specialist may be required in certain situations.

Please come in for a consultation to see if you are suitable for a dental implant treatment. A proper examination will be done by one of our dentists to ensure treatment is right for you and whether a referral to a specialist or a second opinion is advisable.
